About Moissanite

Moissanite is a naturally forming mineral, much like diamond, emerald or ruby.

First discovered in 1893 by French scientist Henri Moissan (thus the name "moissanite"), it is incredibly rare by nature (many times rarer than diamond).

Once cut, moissanite is strikingly similar to diamond. Only a connoisseur can tell the two apart. Moissanite, however, is a gemstone in its own right with a completely different composition than diamond.

Meanwhile, moissanite and diamond are often compared with each other. That's because more and more people are choosing moissanite as an alternative to diamond. For example, many people nowadays consider purchasing a moissanite engagement ring instead of a diamond ring.

Moissanite is a completely different gemstone than diamond. So the two actually have nothing to do with each other. Moissanite, however, looks very much like diamond. Because of this, the two gemstones are often compared. After all, only a connoisseur can tell the difference.

Moissanite is double refractive. Diamond, on the other hand, is singularly refractive. This means that moissanite reflects light twice, where diamond does so once. In addition, moissanite has a higher refractive index (2.65 versus 2.42). This means that moissanite reflects more "fire" (color) than diamond.

Also, diamond is the hardest gemstone in the world. Moissanite, however, comes in second. For example, diamond is a 10 on the Mohs scale (the highest score) and moissanite 9.25-9.5. Moissanite is therefore harder than sapphire, emerald and topaz! Only a diamond or other moissanite can scratch it. Like diamond, it is incredibly hard and virtually unbreakable.

Both diamond and moissanite can be found in nature. Moissanite, however, is much rarer. Commercially available moissanite, however, has always been grown in laboratories because it is far too rare in nature.

In addition, moissanite is overwhelmingly the ethical choice compared to diamonds, because moissanite has always been grown in laboratories while more than half of all excavated diamonds come from conflict zones.

Most people like the overall light reflection of moissanite better than diamond. Therefore, it does not make sense these days to spend so much money on diamonds, when you can get something more beautiful and of equal quality for a fraction of the price!

Our jewelry

If you are in doubt between two ring sizes because you are just in between, we recommend choosing the larger ring size. You will then almost always have the right size. Do you still have doubts? Then contact us.

My Moissanite jewelry never tarnishes or discolors. That's because we work exclusively with solid precious metal. This means that all of our jewelry is made of solid silver, gold, or platinum.

However, silver can develop some natural tarnish. This is normal and is very easy to polish away with silver polish or a cleaning solution.

You can shower and swim with our jewelry without any problem.

Beware, however, of swimming in pools with chlorine. Chlorine can adversely affect your jewelry. Thus, it is strongly advised against wearing your jewelry while swimming in water containing chlorine.

Swimming in the sea or pools with salt water is fine, but be careful not to lose your favorite piece of jewelry!

My Moissanite works exclusively with solid precious metals. So our jewelry is always made of solid silver, gold, or platinum. We do not do silver plating or gold plating of stainless steel. In fact, this will cause jewelry to discolor or peel off.

Gold plated means that a thin layer of gold is applied to another type of (precious) metal. This can be a layer of 10, 14, or 18 karat gold on silver or stainless steel. My Moissanite does not sell gold-plated jewelry.

Silver-plated means the same thing, but with a thin layer of 925 silver (92.5% pure silver). My Moissanite does not sell silver-plated jewelry.

Rhodium-plated means that a layer of rhodium is applied. This gives both silver and gold a beautiful, bright, white color. So silver becomes brighter, and yellow gold becomes white gold. All silver and white gold jewelry from My Moissanite is rhodium-plated.

Because we always want to deliver a high-quality product, we work exclusively with precious metals. This includes all precious metals, such as silver, gold and platinum.

All of our moissanite stones are made exclusively for My Moissanite. These are always guaranteed in clarity VVS1 or better, D-E-F colorless, and of excellent cut quality.

Custom-made jewelry

You can make a request for a custom moissanite jewelry without any obligations or cost. This may be based on photos of, say, a diamond ring, earrings, bracelet or necklace that you have seen on another website.

We will then respond within 24 hours with an appropriate proposal. Included in this is an estimate in terms of price. If you accept our proposal, we ask for a € 50 deposit. These costs are required to create the 3D design.

Once we receive the €50 deposit, we will have our 3D designer prepare an identical design based on the photos we received. This takes about 1 to 2 days. Once completed, we share the design via email or WhatsApp. We can then discuss this by phone, email or over WhatsApp. During this period, you will have the opportunity to pass on any adjustments you might desire.

Once you approve the design, we ask for the full payment less the €50 deposit. We'll then proceed to production.

Two to three weeks later, your custom-made jewelry will be ready for shipping or pickup!

Absolutely! Contact us, and we will be happy to show you previous assignments.
